Family Time: Take A Colorful Drive

Autumn leaves of red and gold…” is part of the song of the same name. Want to have a wonderful day out with your family? Take a leisurely drive to a destination wherein you can view all the colors of nature; specifically, the fall foliage.

Do you remember as a kid when your dad used to take the family for a Sunday outing? During the fall months especially, it seemed as if every tree dressed up for the occasion and presented its own unique style and signature; its own color signifying the end of fall and beginning of winter. Were you spellbound by the different shades of reds and oranges, browns and yellows?

Today, it seems we hardly notice the changing of the seasons. Kids, however, are totally in tune with nature and its ever-changing faces. Driving along a country road is as soothing as listening to a symphony. As you pass all of the trees and foliage, you truly feel one with nature and it does, in fact, bring a smile to your face, doesn’t it?

Plan on a day out with the family; bring lots of snacks and drinks for the kids. Perhaps you can have a picnic at your destination, if the weather is accommodating. The kids can gather up leaves of all colors and bring them home to place in their scrapbooks.

You can also use the leaves to make a Thanksgiving wreath for your front door. Or you can craft a beautiful frame and utilize the collected leaves as the centerpiece and hang it where everyone in the family will be able to see it and remember that special day.

Sometimes we become so busy with life that it gets in the way of truly enjoying it. Start a tradition, if you haven’t already done so, and take one day out of a weekend. Don’t decide on a specific destination. Instead, take the time to enjoy the journey itself.
