Labor Day Party Ideas

Everyone hates for summer to end so Labor Day is kind of bittersweet time. It’s that one last chance to have a summer party. There are many ways to celebrate, so gather up the family, friends and neighbors and get ready for an end of summer bash.

Pool Party – Even if you only have a small wading pool in the backyard, you can have a pool party. Fill up the kiddy pool, get out the sprinkler, the slip and slide and cool off. Have beach balls around for fun and decoration. Fix simple finger foods, so people can snack and eat light, before they hit the water. Find some fun surfer tunes and you’re ready to dive right in.

Mexican Fiesta – Decorate with bright colors, maybe get a few sombreros and a piñata or two and you have the makings of a Mexican fiesta. Play some Mariachi music in the background to complete the atmosphere. There are plenty of tasty foods that can be served. A simple and tasty cheese dip is made with browned, crumbled breakfast sausage, melted cheese, a can of cream of chicken or mushroom soup and your favorite salsa. Serve with chips for a yummy snack. Taquitos and mini tacos make great finger foods.

Summer Nights – Have an evening party. String Christmas lights around the yard and just play some classic rock and roll and have a dance party. Invite people to wear their poodle skirts, jeans and t-shirts. Have cheeseburgers and fries, milkshakes and rock the summer night away.

Craft Party – A craft party could be a fun end of summer party. Put together several messy crafts that are best done outside. Paper Mache is always a favorite. The kids could make animals, sports stuff, aliens or just about anything they can imagine. Salt dough is another fun, but messy craft. If it gets spilt on the ground, you don’t have to sweep it up after the party is over. Then the kids can make their figures and while they are working on something else, you can bake them for painting later in the party. Leaf prints are also a fun project. Collect all kinds of leaves from the yard or other nature items and make unique art to take home.

Out of this World Party – You don’t have to wait until Halloween to have a costume party. Have a Sci-Fi themed party, inviting all your guests to dress up as the silliest, scariest or funniest alien – from a show, movie or their imagination. Have fun with the menu as well, adding food coloring to make things look more alien-like. Have space themed games. Listen to sound tracks from Sci-Fi movies and shows playing in the background.

No matter what kind of party you have, enjoying one last chance at summer is reason enough to celebrate.
