Planning A Family Reunion

Are you planning a family reunion? If you have a family as large as mine, you will need to prepare a few months in advance. Here are some tips to help make this reunion a huge success.

You will need to enlist the aid of a few relatives to pull this one off. With so many family members living in different locations, you may want to make it a weekend celebration. In fact, it may even be someone’s birthday or anniversary! This is the perfect time to get everyone together. To this end, you will need to assign tasks for finding the location including accommodations and meals; setting up travel arrangements; bus, train and flight information; decorating and music; pictures and videos; and picking up relatives.

* Check hotel locations to find those centrally located
* If a large group of family members live in one area; check prices for chartering a bus
* Check if the hotel is offering discount prices for group reservations, including accommodations and meals
* Check to see if the hotel offers low-fat, vegetarian, and low sodium meals
* Ask for the check-in and check-out time
* Check bus, train and flight schedules and prices for those who live out of state
* Ensure the hotel has a ballroom or a suitable room wherein you can all congregate
* Prepare invitations
* Bring decorations
* Bring CDs – there will definitely be dancing later on!
* Have someone available who can take group pictures or videos
* Have someone available to pick up family members at airports, bus stations or train stations

Coming from a very large family, one of the most wonderful aspects of family reunions is not only the preparation, but the look on everyone’s faces when they see each other after many years apart. For many older relatives it’s especially rewarding. With dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews – some of whom have never seen each other; it is the perfect opportunity to bring entire generations together.

If you are planning a family reunion, make it as special as you can. The memories will last a lifetime!
